This 24-townhome neighbourhood is designed to provide long-term, affordable homes for island families. We were engaged by a local non-profit society to manage all aspects of the development process from visioning, financial modelling, fundraising, design, permitting and construction. We assembled a stellar interdisciplinary team who worked hard to ensure the project exceeded expectations and overcame the stigma often associated with non-profit housing. Some of the features we are proudest of include: careful building siting to maximize forest retention and create a welcoming, pedestrianized environment; generous-sized living spaces, some with large basements; solar-PV arrays and heat pumps for each home; EV chargers; drought-resistant, permaculture landscaping; and a shared Common House building for gatherings and classes.
